Imma Procrastinator

I’m attempting NaBloPoMo this year. Last year around this time, I had to Google NaBloPoMo because so many blogs were writing about it and I was clueless! National Blog Posting Month means simply this: I need to write 30 posts in 30 days.

When I sit down to blog, I procrastinate. I read other blogs to see what others are writing about. (Are you procrastinating right now?) I look on Facebook. I check my email. Why do I do this when I love to write and I love to blog? My fingers freeze over the keyboard. What should I write? Is it funny enough? Interesting enough? WILL PEOPLE LAUGH AT ME? I always thought some of those insecurities would go away when I was an adult and not in high school anymore.

By writing every day, I hope to lessen my “staring at a blank screen” syndrome. I’m sure it won’t go away, but maybe when I sit down in front of my computer I won’t be overwhelmed by that blinking cursor.

Why write? I’m not planning on becoming a novelist. I’m pretty sure I don’t have a novel in me. Or at least a good novel. I have a number of novels I started in high school, but I’m pretty sure they should never see the light of day again. However, I encounter writing every day. I write reports for church boards, newsletters for MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) and when I was teaching, I would write letters home to parents and a variety of other things. Writing narrative report cards was extremely challenging for me, since I wanted to say the correct words in the correct way.

Another reason to participate in NaBloPoMo is because I LOVE MY BLOG! I needed a hobby that didn’t make another mess on the dining room table, because there is no room for another mess. The dining room table barely exists under the pile of papers there right now. NaBloPoMo is way to make my hobby even better.

What about you? Why do you blog, or write? What are your reasons for doing NaBloPoMo?

  1. I didn't join NaBloPoMo, maybe next year. I saw Oprah earlier in the year and they talked about blogs. Had no clue! A friend of mine blogs so I thought that maybe I would give it a try. I did Facebook first. I am just having fun. I have severe asthma which limits me so this has brought me friends, laughs and something to be proud of. Have a nice weekend.

  2. I can tell you why I don't blog. Between work, class, family, taking care of the house and yard, and facebook, I don't need a hobby. But I like reading them.

  3. YNM – I can understand why you don't blog! Since I spend all day with the kiddos, I really need something more "adult," and blogging seems to fit the bill.

  4. I know how you feel about wondering if something is "funny enough or interesting enough". I think the samething about my blog(which I have given up on because facebook is so much easier). I also feel that way about my painting/drawing/ceramics. I know I am GOOD at that but will the next thing be good? I tell my students just get something down on paper. Your finished product will not look like it at all but you have "break the page" get something down that you can work with. Interestingly enough, I am working on a flow chart worksheet thing that will help guide my students through the creative process. Maybe I can send it to you and you could tell me what you think. Let's get together before the roads get bad. Reading your blog makes me miss you!T
