AM or PM?

It’s late. Late for me. My brain starts to shut down at half past bedtime — that is, half past my daughters’ bedtime. By the time they are in bed, which isn’t really that late at all, I feel fried. Kaput. Ready for bed myself.

And yet, that’s the best time to blog. Not really the best time–just the only time I have some peace and quiet and time to myself.

My favorite time to blog, if I had a choice, would be in the morning. In the morning, I’m energetic. Ready to go and full of ideas. Not too early, mind you. For about a week, I was getting up around 6:00 and blogging before the girls were up. The timing was perfect. I usually had about 45 minutes before I heard the first stirrings. But then at least one of the girls…not always the same girl, mind you…started waking up at 6:00 and ruining my writing time.

One writer I know wakes up at 4:00 to write; I don’t think I’m ready to do that yet.

And then once the girls are up, we’re off and running. Breakfast, shower (for me), getting the three of us ready to walk out the door. Sometimes I manage to get a little blogging in, but it usually doesn’t work out that way.

Right now, I’m dragging. I’m in a fog. I’m ready be a couch potato. And yet here I sit, trying to drum up the creativity for another blog post. I haven’t published a post since Monday, and I feel like I need to write.

That feeling is fading fast. I’m going to change into my flannel pj’s, sip that hot cup of chamomile tea that’s waiting for me, and watch my recording of The Good Wife. This is all you’re getting out of me tonight.

It’s exactly 8:43 p.m.

What’s the best time for you?

  1. "My post today was about blessings, too! So I had to pop over when I saw your post on SITS. I think it's wonderful to remember God's blessings, especially when it's so easy to forget as we go throughout our day."Thanks so much for commenting and stopping by!By the way, love your header, your girls are so cute!!

  2. I blog after bedtime but like you it would be nice if I would get up earlier to read my Bible, drink coffee and still have time for blogging. I'm working on it. Sooo.. maybe I should be going to bed. ") I opted for TV tonight too so no post from me but I do have a parenting books giveaway going on if your interested on the home page.

  3. Well I don't have the distractions you have. I like to blog in the morning. About 7am to about 1pm.Lately I am here most of the day but I have to change that because life needs to be lived.

  4. It used to be around 10 p.m. at night. Jonathan was in bed. . . I still had a bit of energy. But now, JOnathan fights going to bed and once he does, I'm out. So then I was waking up at 8 a.m., before I have to be at work at 9 a.m. (doing shower, etc. the night before) and blogging a bit…writing and reading, but now he's been going to be late and waking up early. I'm not sure what is up…maybe he isn't feel well, what? I don't know. . .But I'd like to have a bit of free time. . . sometime.

  5. For me it's in the morning when I am fresh, but occasionally I will write a post at night and save it as a draft to revisit in the morning before posting. But I'm in a different situaltion, my youngest is 11 and my oldest is 16. You have such a fun blog with lots of followers. All of a sudden you'll get lots of ideas for more things to write about, we all get in slumps. For me that's why I'm grateful for Wordless Wednesday and Post It Tuesday.

  6. The best time to blog? Well, since I don't have to deal with children, have a very flexible job, there's not really a preferred time. Although after I've come back from a long trip, I do tend to only blog the next day. At least that would be best, because otherwise it might all sound a bit rambly. Like this comment is starting to sound like as well.Short answer to your question: anytime.

  7. I am much more a night person than a morning one. I get my second wind when the kids go to bed and I love to unwind then. I only wish there were more hours in the evening, but I don't think the kids would stand for me putting them to bed at 5.

  8. I have the same dilemma… except I often find that if I get up early I'm always tempted to start by READING blogs rather than writing, and then time passes quickly and suddenly here come those little feet down the stairs. Would that we could all blog for pay, earning triple-digit salaries from our musings (ah, Heather Armstrong, how I envy thee)!
