Fat Girl Jeans (HASAY, Week 1)

I finally broke down. On Saturday, I went to go buy jeans in a bigger size since I’m tired of squeezing my expanding waist into jeans that are too small and showing my muffin top. At least the sale at Carson’s overcame my disappointment in having to buy a new size. I bought a $60 pair of door-buster Ruff Hewn jeans for only $18!

My size? I’m not divulging that number! Let’s just say I’m back up to the weight I was when I was taking Tamoxifen, a medication for breast cancer. At least back then, I was able to justify my weight gain by blaming it on the meds. Now, I have nothing to blame this extra poundage on.

We are going to a family reunion this summer in Colorado, and we want to be outdoors; this is going to be a very active vacation. I don’t want everyone, including my two-year-old, to be waiting for me as I huff and puff up the trail.

So, I devised a plan while I was showering this morning. I have a couple of exercise DVD’s that I’m going to use for 30 minutes a day. Just thirty minutes. I think I can spare that much time to exercise, and if I keep it up, then I’ll have more energy to do the rest of the things I have to do during the day.

There’s also portion control. I’ve starting trying this already, but I’m not doing a fantastic job. I need to do better at eating healthy foods, AND I also need to stop stuffing myself. So when we ordered pizza last night, I stopped after two pieces. They were big pieces, but I stopped. (Being the waste-not mom that I am, I did eat the rest of Lily’s piece, too, so I didn’t really stop! But instead of eating three and a half pieces, I had two and a half. We had thin crust pizza. Does that help my case at all?) I’ll admit that willpower is something I need to work on when it comes to food. But that’s just one more reason to join Casey at Half as Small as You, so that I feel accountable to something.

Here I go — Week 1 of HASAY! I’ll tell you how I do next Monday.

  1. I know, that's the dreaded trip that I need to make too! I still haven't lost my last 5 pounds of baby weight! Good luck with your plan. I know it's not easy.

  2. Good luck! Pizza is a huge temptation for me too. It's hard to stop when it tastes so good. I actually heard thin crust can be bit tricky, since it's less filling you might end up eating more of it and the toppings can add up.I'm so guilty of eating the kids left overs it's not even funny. It's not easy to just dump it either.Good luck on your first HASAY week!

  3. I wish you the best of luck. I so much need to change my ways of eating and start getting some exercise.

  4. Yay, welcome to the club, my dear! You and me both on the buying bigger sizes.. I keep going up, up, up and I'm over it too. I like your plan, thirty minutes seems doable, although it will be hard some days with the kids and life getting in the way. You can do this though, good luck!

  5. Well hello and welcome to HASAY! Glad you made the plunge! I like your plan. I refuse to buy bigger sizes so my yoga pants (fun pants) are just busting at the seams. IS AWESOME.

  6. Hi and welcome to the club. I just lurk and keep my good intentions to myself. Your plan is a good one, and I wish you all the success possible. Outdoor fun in Colorado will definitely be more fun when you're fit πŸ™‚

  7. A $60 pair of jeans for $18?!?! You are my hero! Now come sit next to me and teach me how to knit that darling dolly dress! Yes, thin-crust pizza makes a BIG difference. Calorically you can eat three thin-slice pieces for one deep or hand-tossed! Nothing but good times ahead…

  8. Good luck to you. Reducing portion sizes will help you. I personally found that when I started drinking more water and cut out soda, it made a big difference on my waist size.By the way, I'm a waste-not mom too! Lol

  9. I so need to get serious about dropping some weight. I refuse to buy another pair of jeans this size, because they are a touch big. If I could just lose another 10 pounds the smaller size will fit me. I NEED to do it!!!

  10. Welcome to HASAY! Now is the best time to start, it always beats tomorrow. Don't worry about the pizza, thin crust is better than deep dish. πŸ™‚

  11. If you have the money for it or a good internet pirate, I recommend Turbo Jam. Whipped MY butt into shape in only 6 weeks.

  12. You know, it's all about baby steps. If you change your eating habits drastically right off the bat, you're likely to have lots of moments where you cave. You shouldn't have to feel like you're depriving yourself of foods that you enjoy. You did good by only eating 2 pieces and having the thin crust. It's amazing how many calories you can save by switching from thick to thin crust. Another thing I do with pizza is only order veggies on it (no meat) and I soak up all the excess grease on the pizza with a couple paper towels before eating it!You can do this!!

  13. Glad to have you in HASAY! It sounds like you have a great plan and a good incentive. I second the notion about cutting out soda – empty calories. Have you had the delite pizza from Papa Murphy's? I love that – really thin crust. What exercise DVD's are you using?

  14. I was huffing and puffing up a mountainside this morning to visit a church. And when I was nearly there, I saw it was closed! Grrrr…I did make it to the castle though which was even higher up. And right now I am completely done! So, I treated myself to chocolate…

  15. Welcome. Your opening post for HASAY is just what I belong to HASAY for, inspiration. I'm impressed, I'm also a wastenot want no mom, it's hard to change those ideas.
