Scrapping OBX Lighthouses

You may have read somewhere that on Mondays, I am guest hosting “My Young Adult Years” over at Mommy’s Piggy Tales. {Insert wink here!} When Janna and I were talking about her vision for My YAY, we decided that “young adult” should be our early twenties.

While I have plenty of material to draw on from my early twenties, I didn’t start dating my husband until I was 31 years old and he was 35. Lucky for you, I can write memories of our time together on other days of the week!

Ed and I discovered early in our relationship that we both loved to travel. We haven’t traveled the world, but we have seen quite a lot of the United States together. We love Road Trips! (Or at least we used to, pre-children.) The week after I walked the Avon 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk, Ed and I drove to North Carolina to vacation in the Outer Banks. A trip to the Outer Banks isn’t complete without visiting lighthouses! I tried to curve the black stripes on my scrapbook page below to match the Hatteras Lighthouse, but I wasn’t very successful at capturing that three-dimensional effect.

Ah, the thrill of the open road! On the drive home from North Carolina, we stopped in Mammoth Cave, Kentucky. A little later that year, we attended a wedding in Quincy, Illinois. When Ed and I were traveling, we were often by ourselves. So we would take pictures of one another in the same spot. On the scrapbook page below, I used horizontal lines to tie the separate photos of us together.

More scrapbook pages of our travel together next week! (That may not be the most thrilling cliffhanger ever…please come back?) {insert smiley face here!}

Memories by Christine
Before I started this blog, I used to scrapbook. (See the above scrapbook pages!) I just loved it, and I want to start scrapbooking again.  Christine’s Scrap Party takes place every week, and this just may be the right motivation for me to start scrapbooking again…blogging about it! 1. Bex – The only digital scrapbooking I've tried is when I've worked on my blog header. Right now, I think I prefer working with real paper!

  2. Lighthouses with black and white stripes? What will they think of next?? (I am only used to red and white stripes). The page looks good to me though.

  3. Sounds like me – I have a scrapbooking cabinet, that lately I only open to work on crafts with B… I'd like to get back to it too, but I think it will have to wait till T is a little older…

  4. Hah, please come back? Of course I will! We used to travel pre-kids but our trips were mostly to places like Vegas and Atlantic City… ha. Love the pics of you two on the trail.

  5. I love lighthouses, though I've never actually seen one in person! I used to collect little figurines, before I had the kids. Now I have no clue where my collection is!!!Love the scrapbooking pages!!!

  6. I found your site from Adventures of the Grigg Boys. I love it. I’m going to poke around a little bit, but don’t worry I’ll put everything back where I found it!!

  7. Hey, Kate has been visiting my site too…hmmmm…I'm afraid to click on her link….Anyhow, I scrapbooked a lot more too before blogging. I still love to do it!

  8. I use to scrapbook too before I began blogging. I bought software (PSE 8) so i could start digital scrapping, but I still haven't gotten around to it. The learning curve is huge with digital. Some days, I'm tempted to just go back to the traditional paper scraping.

  9. Lighthouses are beautiful! If digital scrapping is a bit intimidating, consider a program like Polaroid's My Memories Suite. It's drap and drop digital scrapbooking with lots of printing and sharing options. Very easy to learn and use.

  10. Thanks for the recommendation, Barbara!Part of my love for scrapbooking is laying down papers and photos, playing with colors and layouts, and adding my own embellishments. That's why I want to stick with good, old fashioned paper scrapbooks.Plus, I already spend too much time in front of the computer, blogging!

  11. Beautiful job with the black and white stripes- I wouldn't have thought to match the background with the actual photo:) I love it! Thanks for linking up- it's wonderful to read about your life each week- I really enjoy it:)
