My phone rang. It was my brother, wondering if I’d left for his place yet.

Brother: Should I order the pizza?

Ginny: Yes! I’ll be hungry when I get there!

Brother: Are you picky about pizza?

Ginny: No, not really.

Brother: Should I order from Domino’s or the local place?

Ginny: DON’T ORDER FROM DOMINO’S! ANYTHING BUT DOMINO’S!

Brother: What do you want on it? Bar-b-que chicken?

Ginny: NO, NOT BAR-B-QUE CHICKEN PIZZA! I had it once at the hospital cafeteria! It was horrible!

I guess I’m a little picky about my pizza.

My brother and sisters and I were getting together for a Siblings Only night. No spouses, no kids, just us. My brother invited us to spend the night at his place, mostly so that I wouldn’t feel like I had to get home because of the girls.

We didn’t do much that night; we thought maybe we would play cards but we never got around to it. We ate pizza and talked. We played with my brother’s cat Sammy. We curled up on the couch in our pj’s and watched John Carter. The only excitement of the evening was when my phone rang and I knew it was Ed calling to let me say good night to the girls only I couldn’t find my phone and when I finally found it and called back Emmy started crying and wanted me to come home.

As much as her crying broke my heart, I stayed at my brother’s all night and bought doughnuts for Emmy in the morning. There’s nothing like bringing those round fried cakes with pink frosting for breakfast to allay a mommy’s guilt trip.

I can’t wait for the next Siblings Only night.
